Re-opening with a new website and new photography

St Raphael’s B&B is an independent B&B and guesthouse in the centre of York. Ran by a local couple, they pride themselves on providing quality service and serving up delicious locally sourced food.

 

Website

St Raphael’s required a new website to update their online presence. They wanted something that was more mobile friendly and focused on encouraging customers to book direct.

After learning about the booking system they used, we were able to integrate this into their website – something they hadn’t had before. We were also able to connect Google Analytics to their website and booking system to track bookings and identify high-value acquisition channels. 

Interior photography

As St Raphael’s re-opened after lockdowns in 2020, they needed new photography to show off their updated rooms.

They wanted lighter photography that could be used on their website and on social media. We took photos of each of their room types rather than each room to ensure the cost offered the most value for money.

We took a range of photos from wide-angle shots of rooms to close-ups of decorative and ornemental items.

Food photography

After re-opening and when planning their new website, St Raphael’s noticed they didn’t have an up to date photos of their breakfast menu.

We spent half a day with them to capture shots of their full range of breakfast items. To make these shots authentic, we brought our lights and equipment to their dining room.

Indoor Funfairs had been using a simple website builder for their website and selling tickets through external websites.

The new website we made is responsive and allows tickets to be sold through their website and to collect emails for marketing.

They’re now able to save money on fees from booking websites and manage the whole customer experience themselves.

Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta

New brand, new website, event photography and event social media

We’ve been working with Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta since 2018 when they were York Balloon Fiesta. Ahead of their 2021 event, they wanted to rebrand now that the event itself had evolved.

Working with local designer Zumo Juice, we helped create the new branding, including a whole new logo, colour scheme and social media templates.

Before the event launched, we built a new website including a new domain name and managed the transition whilst maintaining strong organic SEO.

In the run-up and during their 2021 event in September, we managed their organic social media channels and provided photography for the whole four day event.

Branding

To attract a larger audience, the team at York Balloon Fiesta decided it was time to rebrand to Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta. As a long time client, they approached milnerCreative to see how we could support them.

We used our relationship with Zumo Juice, a freelance designer we’ve worked with before, to manage the rebranding process. Throughout the process, we were able to liaise with the client and designer to keep the process moving.

Web design

Once the new branding was complete, we were able to start work designing a new website. Using the new brand colours and typography throughout the site, we ensured all of their brand touchpoints, from social media and website to their event signs and banners.

The new site also enabled them to sell tickets through their website. This was key as they hadn’t sold tickets to this event before. Since the event, we’ve updated their website again to prepare it for next year’s event, including a mailing list sign up form.

Social media

Through July and August, milnerCreative managed the Facebook and Instagram account for Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta.

During the two months, we posted 142 times to Facebook which reached almost 2 million people and had over 25,000 engagements. On Instagram, we posted to the feed 50 times and reached over 8,000 people which generated over 5,600 likes and 221 comments.

Also on Instagram, we posted 141 stories which were seen over 98,000 times and had almost 7,000 reactions.

Photography

As well as providing social media across all four days of the festival, we also provided photography. Our team of two were able to work together to take photos during the day and upload them to social media.

This unique partnership between our photographer and social media manager meant high-quality photography could be instantly shared instead of standard smartphone photos.

Over the four days, we provided 970 fully edited high-quality photos that can be used to promote future events and have been used in press articles, on the website and continue to be used on their social media.

After working with St Raphael’s Guest House on some new photography, they asked up about updating their website.

They wanted a site that was brighter than their current site and one that would work harder to convert website visitors to bookers.

To do this, we moved more of the information a potential guest would need on to the home page. We also included a date checker widget and a book now button that appeared on every page.

Our client, Events by Cynosure who organise York Balloon Fiesta, approached us to tell us they were rebranding to Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta.

We worked with them to create a plan that included creating a new logo and branding, updating their website, their digital presence and their social media channels.

Events By Cynosure wanted us to look after all aspects of their rebrand for them. We contacted Zumo Juice Design, a freelance designer we’ve worked with before, and briefed in the rebrand to them.

Using our knowledge of the client and the processes of Zumo Juice Design, we brought the new branding back to the client and had sign off in a short space of time.

Using the new branding, we were able to create new social media logos and banners to make Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta instantly recognisable across all platforms.

Website design and SEO

We built the new Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta on yorkshireballoonfiesta.co.uk whilst yorkballoonfiesta.co.uk was still live, making sure their was no loss of service.

Once they were ready for the switch, we redirected the domain to the new site meaning no traffic was lost. We updated their links across Google Analytics, Google Search Console and contacted sites who linked to the old website to inform them of the change and ask them to update their links.

After just a few days, the new Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta website was ranking number one for the terms Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta and York Balloon Fiesta, outranking other popular websites.
